Baptised in Fire: Ruta Drone Missile Hits an Offshore Rig for the First Time at a Distance of More Than 250 km

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces had hit an offshore rig for the first time using a Ruta drone missile.

The head of state said this during a conversation with journalists, Ukrinform reports.

Commenting on the retaliatory strikes deep into Russia, the President noted that there is also a positive side to this issue.

“The second positive: Ruta, our drone missile, for the first time hit a 250 kilometers+ offshore rig,” Zelenskyi said.

He did not specify which particular rig he was referring to and did not disclose the exact date of the strike or its outcome.

In December, Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that Ukraine was testing a Ruta drone missile.

Last summer, at the Eurosatory 2024 exhibition, the Ukrainian stand demonstrated a model of the Ruta missile developed by Destinus, a company founded by Russian-born physicist Mikhail Kokorich, who opposed the Russian invasion and renounced his Russian citizenship.

The manufacturer claims that Ruta has a cruising speed of Mach 0.8 and a maximum range of 500 kilometers.
