Bundeswehr Chooses Quantum Systems Twister Drone, Also Produced in Ukraine

The Bundeswehr has selected the Twister drone by Quantum Systems to serve as the German army’s primary close-range reconnaissance platform.

Hartpunkt reported the announcement.

According to the report, the framework agreement allows for the potential supply of up to 747 drones, with the first contract expected to cover around 147 units.

The final decision is pending approval of the budget application in December 2025, which would enable the renewal of the fleet and the gradual replacement of the ALADIN drones, which have been in service with the Bundeswehr since 2005.

The Twister is a compact, aircraft-style drone with a vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) system, allowing a single operator to launch it without catapults or other launch equipment. The drone has a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 3.8 kg and can be transported in a compact case.

According to the manufacturer, the Twister has a range of 15 km, can remain in the air for up to 90 minutes, and reaches combat readiness in approximately two minutes.

The Ukrainian military already uses similar systems. Quantum Systems had planned to begin serial production of the Twister in Ukraine in July 2025, with the intention of integrating it into the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
