Carl Gustaf Grenade Launcher Receives New Ammunition for Penetrating Active Protection

The Swedish company Saab has unveiled a new type of anti-tank HEAT 758 ammunition with a tandem shaped-charge warhead for the Carl Gustaf man-portable grenade launcher.

The development is designed to engage heavy armored vehicles equipped with additional reactive armor, reports hartpunkt.

The manufacturer noted that the ammunition is already in serial production, as the company has received a contract from an undisclosed buyer.

The technical features of the tandem charge allow the front component to neutralize external armor blocks, creating conditions for penetrating the main hull. The main cumulative component penetrates up to 700 mm of homogeneous steel.

The ammunition supports Firebolt technology, which enables data exchange with the FCS 558 digital sight. Thanks to this, the grenade launcher automatically accounts for air temperature, range, and other ballistic factors when calculating the point of impact.

As a reminder, Denmark will equip its reservists with Carl Gustaf M4 grenade launchers — the government has already signed the relevant contracts with the manufacturer.

The purchase is aimed at enhancing the Armed Forces’ ability to engage various types of targets at short and medium ranges, including armored vehicles and infantry.
