The Russian invaders are faced with a shortage of watercraft in the occupied part of the Kherson region. Due to the critical shortage of boats associated with successful attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy is unable to conduct offensive operations in the Dnieper Delta.
At the same time, the military leadership of the aggressor country is trying to demonstrate that the situation remains under full control. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the military movement of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars “Atesh”. An agent from the 70th Motorized Rifle Division of the 18th Combined Arms Army reported on the worsening problem with watercraft. According to him, on the islands of the Dnieper Delta near Kherson, the Russian troops have almost no speedboats left, as Ukrainian drones are systematically destroying them one by one, and there are no new replenishment. “The command pretends that everything is under control. In fact, there are almost no boats left, every trip to the water is now a lottery,” he said. The islands now remain effectively cut off, and moving personnel and ammunition across the straits has become a daily risk without adequate cover and reserves. This makes rotation difficult, supplies are disrupted, and soldiers who remain in positions have to wait weeks for replacements. According to the agent, some of the boats that still survive are failing due to wear and tear and improper maintenance, although the command is slow to admit this. Atesh also noted that all the collected information has already been transferred to the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Spokesman of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn says that Russian forces have stepped up attempts to land on islands in the Dnipro delta, trying to improve their tactical position.Combat clashes took place in the eastern part of Bilohrudyi Island. The Russians are also actively maneuvering near Kruhlyi Island. The occupiers’ strategic goal remains control over the areas near the Antonivskyi road and rail bridges, which would allow them to bring artillery and mortars closer to Kherson. To prevent a possible river crossing by the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Russian forces have created an extensive system of minefields and underground communications that stretch for kilometers along the left bank from Nova Kakhovka. The Russians are simulating “captures” of territory in front of drones to create the illusion of success, but they have no real control over the islands. Ukrainian defense forces control the island zone and are thwarting any enemy attempts to establish logistics for assault groups. Since the beginning of 2026, Atesh says it has documented several incidents of self-inflicted explosions involving units engaged in river operations. According to the movement, remote mining is being carried out without proper coordination, up-to-date minefield maps, or systematic tracking of deployed explosives. “The Dnieper River delta is gradually turning into a deadly trap for the occupiers, where the main threat comes not only from Ukraine’s Defense Forces, but also from their own incompetent command,” the movement said. The resistance movement adds that attempts to compensate for failures on the water through so-called technological solutions only further expose widespread mismanagement within Russian forces. The incidents coincide with earlier reports that Russian forces have begun laying anchored river mines in the Dnieper using uncrewed surface vessels.
