Phoenix, a Golden Retriever, found himself in a life-threatening situation after wandering onto a frozen pond and falling into freezing water.
On New Year’s morning, first responders were called to Little Masachaug Pond in Westerly, United States, after the dog fell through thin ice near the center of the pond.
Volunteers were on the scene within minutes and launched a coordinated water rescue to reach Phoenix.
The Golden Retriever was quickly pulled to safety and reunited with his owner.
No injuries were reported, but the Misquamicut Fire Department wrote in a post regarding the rescue:
"Reminder: No ice is ever safe."
