At least 15 US soldiers have been injured as Iran launched a missile attack on the United States military base in Saudi Arabia over the past week. According to sources speaking anonymously to local media, Iran launched an attack involving six ballistic missiles and 29 drones targeting Saudi Arabia’s Prince Sultan Air Base on Friday. The strike reportedly resulted in at least 15 personnel being wounded, with five of them in serious condition. Early assessments from US officials indicated that at least 10 American service members were injured, including two who sustained significant injuries. According to reporting based on The New York Times’ analysis, the assault on Prince Sultan Air Base involved a coordinated barrage of both ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, rather than a single type of weapon, underscoring the complexity of the strike and the challenges it posed to defensive systems. Analysts and US officials cited by the publication described this particular attack as one of the most significant penetrations of American air defenses since the conflict began nearly a month ago, highlighting how Tehran’s use of mixed missile and drone tactics has strained regional protective measures. Prince Sultan Air Base had already been hit twice earlier in the week, with one of those earlier incidents reportedly leaving 14 U.S. troops injured, according to individuals familiar with the situation who had been briefed on the events. Prince Sultan Air Base, situated about 96 kilometers south of Riyadh, is operated by the Royal Saudi Air Force but also hosts US military personnel and assets, making it a joint-use installation of strategic importance. There have also been attacks on Iranian-backed militant groups launching a number of airstrikes in Jordan. Meanwhile, a base of Iraqi pro-Iran armed faction was hit near Baghdad today, hours after the US announced increased cooperation with the Iraqi government to prevent attacks by armed groups inside and outside the country. The US and Israeli jointly launched a large-scale Epic Fury campaign in Iran on February 28, targeting the country’s military, nuclear facilities, and senior officials. Iranian forces launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks against US and allied positions throughout the Middle East, including military bases hosting American troops in the Gulf and neighboring countries. Iranian ballistic missiles and unmanned attack drones were used to target US installations, prompting allied air defenses in nations such as Saudi Arabia and others to intercept incoming projectiles. Tehran framed these actions as defensive measures in response to what it called unlawful aggression by the United States and Israel, and warned that American and Israeli assets in the region had become legitimate targets
