Ukrainian drones targeted infrastructure at a major railway station serving key routes in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, according to the Astra project.
The strike on the Kavkazskaya station in the city of Kropotkin triggered a large fire at a traction substation, which provided power to the region’s railway transport network.
The strike on the infrastructure facility was confirmed by the local operational headquarters, which reported the ‘fall of UAV debris’ and a fire at the substation. They noted that there were no casualties as a result of the attack.
The Kavkazskaya railway station is a key junction – it connects the North Caucasus with Rostov, Kuban, and the Black Sea port zone of the region.
As a crucial link toward the Black Sea, the station handles large volumes of freight traffic, including agricultural products and petroleum products.
In addition to its economic importance, this route is also significant for transferring equipment and machinery further north into Russia and to the occupied Crimea.
The strikes on the station are part of a campaign launched by Ukrainian forces to undermine Russia’s logistics system, which heavily relies on rail transport.
Just a week earlier, drones struck a railway hub and locomotive depot in the city of Petrov in the Volgograd region, about 350 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
On August 17th, drones attacked the Liski railway station in the Voronezh region, resulting in a suspension of train traffic. This station is one of the largest railway hubs of Russia’s South Eastern Railway and is actively used by the enemy to transport military equipment and personnel.
