Explosion Threat: Romania Evacuates Village After Russian Attack on Gas Ship Near Izmail

Romania has begun evacuating the residents of the village of Plauru in Tulcea County after a nighttime Russian attack that set a ship loaded with liquefied natural gas on fire.

This is reported by Agerpres.

The evacuation began after Russian drones attacked the Ukrainian port of Izmail in the Odesa region, where a Turkish-flagged merchant ship was located.

Due to the proximity to the Romanian coast and the nature of the cargo, the authorities decided to evacuate the residents of Plaura, who live opposite the port, across the Danube.

As of this morning, some residents, including people at risk and families with children, are being evacuated to safer locations. Romanian rescuers and other services continue to monitor the situation, as if the ship explodes, the blast wave and the consequences of the fire could affect Romanian territory.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Russians have attacked civilian vessels in ports and border areas, especially Romanian.

Russian drones have also repeatedly flown into Romanian territory, where they later found their wreckage. For example, in early November 2025, the wreckage of an unknown drone was found near the village of Tulcea Grindu.

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense confirmed the incident and reported that due to unfavorable weather conditions, it was not possible to quickly raise fighters for monitoring or interception.
