Colombian guerrillas from the FARC attacked a river patrol boat of the Navy with a drone.
Infodefensa reports that the incident took place on the San Juan del Miquay River in the Cauca department.
The drone hit the stern of the PAF-P boat, but the attack did not cause any casualties among the crew or damage to the vessel’s structure.
The use of such technology is atypical for illegal armed groups in the region.
The FARC, which is engaged in illegal mining in the Cauca waterways, is one of the main targets of the Colombian military, which has recently stepped up operations to control and protect strategic river corridors.
To counter such threats, the Royal Colombian Marines use not only patrol boats but also specialized units.
In particular, the 42nd Marine Battalion, which conducts both land and river operations.
FARC is the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia), a Marxist-Leninist guerrilla organization.
