Israel’s Channel 13 reported, citing senior Israeli Defense Forces officers, that the US military could launch a military operation against Iran in the near future. It is reported that this week is considered a crucial stage in terms of preparations for a possible US attack.
Earlier it was announced that the high-ranking Israeli military leadership had a meeting with the head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Brad Cooper. During the meeting, the parties discussed the coordination of defensive and offensive operations, as well as possible escalation scenarios. During the talks, the US side stated that a final decision has not yet been made on striking Iran, but that all military preparations for a possible operation have been completed.
According to the channel, Israeli commanders expect such an attack to occur soon.
Israel expects potential US strikes to target the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated Basij paramilitary forces. As Channel 13 noted, the selection of these targets could be a tactical move designed to reduce the scale and intensity of an Iranian retaliation.
Amid the deployment of a US Navy aircraft carrier strike group to the region, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that any US attack would be viewed by Tehran as a "full-scale war."
According to him, the Iranian Armed Forces are "fully prepared for the worst-case scenario" and a high state of combat readiness prevails in the country.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has previously stated that Iran is ready for war if Washington wants to "test" the country, stressing that the current level of military preparedness is more extensive and complex than during the 12-day war last year.
Meanwhile, the US military continues to move troops and equipment to bases in the Middle East. According to the Flightradar service, three transport aircraft and a tanker are moving south from European bases. Satellite images also show the deployment of US F-35 fighters at the Muawwafaq air base in Jordan. Sources speaking to Baghdad Today said that Qatari officials are confident that the US will launch a military operation against Iran by the end of this week.
According to Israeli media, the deployment of additional forces by the US military to the Middle East is being carried out in close coordination with the Israel Defense Forces. Currently, the aircraft carrier “Abraham Lincoln” is in the region, as well as the destroyers “Spruance”, “Michael Murphy” and “Frank E. Petersen Jr.”. The air wing of “Abraham Lincoln” includes F-35C and F/A-18E/F fighters, EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft, E-2D Hawkeye early warning and control systems, CMV-22B Osprey support aircraft and MH-60R/S helicopters.
Two US submarines have been deployed to the region, and F-15E Strike Eagle fighters have been deployed to Jordan.
