Finnish Sisu GTP 4×4 Armored Vehicles Spotted in Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces — Their Transfer Was Not Announced

Finnish Sisu GTP 4×4 armored vehicles have appeared in the arsenal of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces.

This is reported by military historian Andriy Haruk.

The appearance of these armored vehicles in Ukraine is unusual, as Finland had not previously publicly announced their transfer as part of military aid packages. It is possible that the vehicles could have arrived via other countries, notably Sweden, which ordered over 300 such vehicles.

The number of armored vehicles transferred remains unknown at this time. Likewise, there is no confirmation regarding their use by other components of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, although it is likely that they may also be in service with other Special Operations Forces units.

At the same time, this is not the first time the Special Operations Forces have received exclusive models of equipment. In particular, it was previously reported that their fleet included German Caracal armored vehicles manufactured by Rheinmetall.

Sisu GTP 4×4

The Sisu GTP 4×4 is built using a modular design with a frame structure. The body consists of three main sections: a fixed front section with the powertrain and two interchangeable sections — a middle section (crew cabin, two- or four-door) and a rear section, which can be a cargo, troop transport, or specialized module.

In the armored personnel carrier variant, the vehicle can carry up to 10 people (short cabin module and troop compartment).

In the pickup configuration with a double-row cab and cargo platform, the capacity is 4-5 people. Specialized solutions include the TREMOS self-propelled mortar and the Giraffe 1X radar station carrier.

The body modules are designed with mine protection in mind. The armor level complies with STANAG 4569 Level 1, providing protection against 7.62×51 mm bullets from a distance of 30 meters.

The powertrain includes a 308 hp Mercedes-Benz OM926 six-cylinder diesel engine, an Allison 3500 six-speed automatic transmission, and a ZF VG750 transfer case.

The vehicle’s maximum weight is 16.5 tons, with a payload capacity of up to 5 tons. Dimensions: length — 6 m, width — 2.5 m, height — 2.55 m, ground clearance — 0.4 m.

The maximum speed exceeds 100 km/h, and the range is up to 700 km.
