Germany Will Purchase 150 Schakal Infantry Fighting Vehicles Based on the Boxer Platform

The Bundestag committees are considering a project to purchase 150 Schakal infantry fighting vehicles for the Bundeswehr, at a cost of approximately EUR 3.4 billion.

The contract provides for the supply of equipment through the OCCAR agency, including simulators, spare parts, logistics, and service, Hartpunkt reports.

The delivery of serial vehicles is scheduled to start in late 2027, following the completion of the system qualification procedure by the military.

The Schakal is based on the Boxer RCT30 platform, featuring an RCT30 unmanned turret similar to that used on the Puma infantry fighting vehicle.

It is armed with a 30 mm MK 30-2/ABM automatic cannon and two MELLS ATGMs (Spike LR/Spike LR2).

The vehicles are intended for grenadier units of the new “medium force” category, including training units.

After the new military structure is approved, an additional purchase of Schakal for the reserve is planned.
