Near Vovchansk, Russian troops are attempting to use a tactic of infiltration through wooded terrain. Yurii Fedorenko, commander of Ukraine’s 429th Unmanned Systems Regiment Achilles, shared the information on Espreso TV.
“Speaking specifically about the Kharkiv region, the situation in Vovchansk is as follows: the Russians are pressing, but there have been no territorial losses. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are putting up a good fight, and, you know, they are constantly repeating the same actions: they draw Russian troops into a certain sector, then destroy that sector and carry out a counterattack, take it, and regain their positions. In some places, Russian forces try to use a tactic of infiltrating through forested areas. If you look at the map, the town — which no longer exists in terms of built-up area — remains largely under the control of the Defense Forces. But in the outskirts, the wooded terrain is what the enemy likes and tries to use to bypass the town on the flank. It’s classic offensive tactics: in any assault operation a town must be outflanked. The Russians are trying the same, but are not succeeding,” he said. Yurii Fedorenko added that Russian troops are trying to expand a bridgehead and close off the upper part of Kharkiv region from the state border to the village of Dvorichne.
“As for the town of Milove, located between Dvorichne and Vovchansk, Russian forces are advancing at full speed, trying to expand their foothold and close off the upper part of the Kharkiv region from the state border to Dvorichne itself. Whether the Russians will achieve the desired result in the short term, in my view, will require a lot of work from us to maintain a steady defensive dynamic over the next month to month-and-a-half. Afterwards, it will be somewhat easier to timely detect the enemy. It will be easier for us to detect them, which means we’ll be able to destroy a greater number of strike assault groups as well as sabotage-reconnaissance units. Speaking about Kupiansk itself — right-bank, left-bank — the situation remains unchanged: the Defense Forces hold that bridgehead. And despite the fairly high level of Russian activity, that bridgehead is being held,” he said.
The commander of the 429th Achilles regiment noted that, in his opinion, Russian forces will hold on for quite some time.
