Ukrainian P1-SUN interceptor drones have for the first time destroyed Russian “Gerbera” drones carrying FPV drones onboard – a new modification that allows strike drones to be delivered deep into the country, local media reported on May 8. Video footage of the interceptor operations shows “Gerbera” drones equipped with a distinctive X-shaped frame and FPV devices mounted on top.Two units were involved in the operation: the “Voron” crew of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade; and the “Box” team of the 302nd Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment. Ukrainian drones detected and destroyed five Russian drones over the course of just one day. The P1-SUN is a Ukrainian interceptor drone developed by SkyFall to destroy Shahed drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles. With a speed of up to 310 km per hour, the drone operates at an altitude of up to 9,000 meters and has a range of up to 33 km from the launch point. Some P1-SUN variants are equipped with thermal imaging cameras and an automated targeting system, allowing operators to track and shoot down targets more accurately. Previously, “Gerbera” drones were mainly used as inexpensive decoy drones but now are being used as an airborne carrier for FPV drones. They were launched in large numbers to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense system or conduct reconnaissance missions
