On January 13, Russian forces used strike drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles during the day, with at least 18 ballistic missiles recorded.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported this.
Over the past day, Ukraine’s interceptor drones alone destroyed 64 Shahed strike UAVs. This is one of the highest figures for the use of interceptors against Iranian-made drones during the war.
Ukrainian air defenses also intercepted a significant share of the incoming targets, but the attack was not fully repelled. As a result, strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure were recorded.
“In fact, since far before the first week of this winter, our repair crews, energy workers, and utility services in many Ukrainian cities have been working around the clock,” the President shared.
Interceptor drones have become one of the war’s practical innovations, offering a relatively low-cost air defense solution. Initially, they were used against enemy reconnaissance drones and were later adapted to counter Shahed-type strike UAVs.
At the same time, Ukraine’s airspace is also being defended by other systems making their battlefield debut. As previously reported, the Air Force’s mobile TEMPEST air defense system has shot down at least 21 Shahed drones.
