Iran has carried out a missile strike on the world’s largest liquefied natural gas plant in Qatar, according to a statement released by the company. As a result of the missile strikes, a major fire broke out at the facility. No information about casualties has been reported. The plant, owned by QatarEnergy, supplies approximately 20 percent of the world’s liquefied gas demand and has suspended operations due to the attack. Iran’s move is said to be a response to Israeli missile strikes on a gas field. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran would face a strong response for this action. It should be noted that after the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28, Iran has been targeting oil and gas facilities, as well as civilian infrastructure, in neighboring countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates with missiles and drones.
