Iran war oil shock could help fund Russia’s war | Olena Lennon

In this episode, we are joined by Olena Lennon, Assistant Professor at the University of New Haven, to discuss how global energy tensions and the conflict in the Middle East are affecting the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Lennon explains that despite market interventions, Russia is still benefiting from rising oil prices and increased demand for its energy exports, which could help finance Moscow’s war effort. She also highlights Kyiv’s strategy of targeting Russian industry, noting that Ukraine is carrying out a multi-factor pressure campaign aimed at Russia’s energy and military-industrial sectors.

According to Lennon, strikes on facilities producing microelectronics and other defense components are designed to reduce Russia’s combat power and limit its ability to sustain the war.
