Tehran launched a fresh drone attack on Oman’s major oil facilities at the port of Salalah on Wednesday, as the war between Iran and the coalition of US and Israeli forces entered the second week. Visuals capturing the aftermath of the attack have been released on social media. Video footage shows thick plumes of smoke rising from the site of the incident. Oman TV reported that multiple drones successfully hit fuel storage tanks at the port facility. Meanwhile, a security source cited by the Oman News Agency said that other incoming aircraft were intercepted by air defence systems. Despite the attack on the storage terminal, no merchant vessels in the harbor were damaged. Reports indicated that the attack forced a halt to operations at the port’s liquid and general cargo terminals while emergency teams worked to bring the ensuing fires under control. No casualties were reported in the immediate aftermath. Today’s attack is the latest in Iran’s air strikes targeting energy facilities in the Gulf region in retaliation to joint US and Israeli air strikes that began last month.
