Swedish and Danish fighter jets intercepted Russian Tu-22M3 bombers escorted by Su-35S fighters.
The Swedish Air Force released photos of the operation.
JAS 39 Gripen fighters intercepted two Russian Tu-22M3 bombers and two Su-35S fighters near the island of Gotland, as they approached Swedish airspace.
When the Russian air group approached the area of the island of Bornholm and Danish airspace, Danish F-35A fighter jets took over the escort.
The Russian bombers had previously conducted similar flights near Sweden, including last November.

They had previously taken off from the Olenya airbase on the Kola Peninsula and were in the air for about five hours.
It is likely that this time they also took off from the same base. During another similar mission earlier this year, the heavy bombers flew over the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea. That operation was more complex and included aerial refueling.
As previously reported, two Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets were scrambled to escort a Russian submarine in the Kattegat Strait, which connects the Baltic and North Seas.
The operation is described as part of routine activity aimed at ensuring the territorial integrity of Sweden and its allies.
On March 20, it was reported that a Russian Su-30 fighter violated Estonian airspace near the island of Vaindloo in the Gulf of Finland.
The aircraft was airborne without a filed flight plan and did not maintain two-way radio communication with the Estonian air traffic control service.
In response to the incident, alert fighters of the Italian Air Force, carrying out NATO air policing missions in Estonia, were scrambled.
