Large-Caliber M110 Self-Propelled Howitzers Added to the Arsenal of the 52nd Artillery Brigade

M110 203-mm self-propelled howitzers have been added to the arsenal of the 52nd Separate Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was reported by the unit’s press service.

Military officials explained when their brigade was formed and what artillery systems are in their arsenal.

“We are equipped with the Bohdana 2S22 self-propelled artillery system and RM-70 Vampire rocket systems, as well as the 203-mm M110A self-propelled howitzer,” the 52nd Artillery Brigade noted.

According to the artillerymen, the Bohdana is used for precision strikes against distant targets, including artillery, depots, and command posts of the Russian invaders. Meanwhile, the Vampire MLRS is used for massive fire strikes against enemy positions and concentrations of infantry and equipment.

Ukrainian artillery units have not specified how they obtained the Western M110 self-propelled howitzers. This is likely part of the military aid provided to Ukraine by various countries since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

M110 for Ukraine

In early October 2025, Greek media reported that the country’s government might sell 60 M110A2 203-mm self-propelled howitzers and 150,000 rounds of ammunition for them to Ukraine via Czechia.

The total cost of the package was estimated at over 199 million euros. Greek military leadership assured that such a sale would not affect the country’s defense capabilities.

In addition to the self-propelled howitzers, the list of weapons was to include: 50,000 M106 shells, 40,000 M650 HERA shells, 30,000 M404 ICM shells, and 30,000 M509A1 DPICM cluster munitions.

The 52nd Separate Artillery Brigade was formed within the Armed Forces of Ukraine on August 1, 2025, based on the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade “Zaporizhzhia Sich.”

The brigade’s units are carrying out missions in eastern Ukraine — providing fire support, conducting counter-battery operations, and targeting enemy logistics.
