US forces have begun withdrawing from Washington’s largest base in northern Syria as part of a broader departure of US-led coalition troops. Dozens of trucks and armored vehicles left the Qasrak base in Syria’s Hasakah province and headed towards the Iraqi border. Over the past month, the United States has significantly scaled back its role in Syria. Troops stationed at the Shaddadi base and the strategically vital At-Tanf outpost have been fully withdrawn, aligning with the Trump administration’s promise to pull American forces out of what it calls “endless wars.” At present, US forces remain in only a limited number of locations – Rumeylan, Harab-Jira, and the Life Stone base. Still, observers suggest that the renewed activity around the project may indicate plans to reactivate operations in additional areas. The Pentagon’s actions have created space for Turkey, Russia, and Iran to expand their influence in the region, while also raising fresh concerns about the future of local Kurdish groups, including the YPG and SDF.
