The latest Russian T-72B3M tanks, model year 2025, have been spotted in Libya.
This was reported by the OSINT group monitoring the conflict in Libya, Libya Field Notes, citing footage published on X.
According to analysts’ estimates, the Libyan National Army (LAAF) may already have at least three T-72B3M tanks (2025 model), as well as BMP-3M infantry fighting vehicles.
The identification of the tanks was confirmed by military equipment researcher Will Knowler, cited by the analysts.
This is one of the latest modifications of the Russian T-72B3 tank, which has been modified based on combat experience from the war against Ukraine.
In particular, these vehicles are equipped with additional protection against drones, modernized armor components, and other adaptations designed to increase survivability on the battlefield.
The appearance of such vehicles in Libya may indicate that Russia continues to supply modern armored vehicles to its foreign partners despite losses on the front lines in Ukraine.
The Libyan National Army, under the command of Khalifa Haftar, traditionally maintains close ties with Moscow, particularly in the military-technical sphere.

The transfer of the latest T-72B3M tanks abroad may also indicate Russia’s attempts to maintain influence in North Africa through arms exports and support for allied forces.
As a reminder, it was recently reported that Uralvagonzavod delivered a batch of T-90M, T-72B3M, and T-80BVM tanks to the Russian Armed Forces.
