Latvia slams Ukrainian “speculation” of 2027 Russian Baltic attack, “damages” Kyiv’s NATO push

In this episode of On the Record, host Aaron Dahmen sits down for an exclusive interview with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže.

Responding to recent claims by Kyrylo Budanov that Russia is accelerating plans for potential military action and could target the Baltic states as early as 2027, Braže firmly rejects the assessment, calling it untrue and speculative, and confirms she has spoken with her Ukrainian counterparts about the comments. She emphasizes that Russia currently lacks the military capacity to engage in conflict with NATO and stresses the importance of unity, strong defense investment, and continued support for Ukraine. She also underpins Latvia’s confidence in NATO’s strength, especially in President Donald Trump and America’s role in the alliance.

Just ahead of the interview, reports emerged that stray Ukrainian drones had entered Baltic airspace overnight, an incident Braže describes as a side effect of Russia’s ongoing war, rather than a direct attack on NATO countries. She notes that such events, caused by Russian jamming and interference, underline the broader regional impact of the conflict.
