Liutyi Strike Drones Halt Production at Cheboksary Kometa Module Facility

Strike drones targeted a facility producing Kometa modules used in Shahed kamikaze drones.

Astra reported on this.

The strikes hit the territory of the JSC VNIIR-Progress plant, located in the city of Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic. The attack took place on the morning of June 9, 2025, resulting in a fire breaking out in one of the buildings.

Due to the attack, the plant’s operations were temporarily suspended. Oleg Nikolaev, Head of the Chuvash Republic, confirmed this and noted that debris from two drones fell on the plant’s premises. According to him, the shutdown was allegedly carried out to ensure the safety of the workers.

“Two UAVs fell on the premises of JSC VNIIR, which led to a responsible decision to temporarily suspend production to ensure the safety of workers,” Oleg Nikolaev, Head of the Chuvash Republic, wrote.

According to the CyberBoroshno community, two AN-196 Liutiy drones performed the strike and flew approximately 975 km from the Ukrainian state border. The VNIIR-Progress facility is part of the private company ABS Electro and is located at Yakovleva Avenue, Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, Russia, at coordinates 56.103301, 47.264584.

The company’s main line of business is the production of GNSS receivers and antennas for satellite systems such as GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo, including Kometa modules, actively used in drones, including Shahed kamikaze drones, as well as in missiles for the Iskander-M, Kalibr systems, and advanced UMPK kits.

The plant also manufactures electrical equipment such as automatic circuit breakers, relays, and solid-state modules, which are supplied to the Russian Navy, including for the Yasen-M nuclear submarines.

Additionally, the company develops hardware and software for shipbuilding, energy, and heavy industry—specifically SCADA systems, programmable electric drives, and SDR radios.

The plant’s profile also includes producing specialized computer equipment, electronic modules, and integrated microelectronics components.

Militarnyi reported that on May 29, 2025, a fire broke out at night in St. Petersburg, Russia, on the territory of the Avangard plant, which specializes in producing microelectronics.

JSC Avangard is a major scientific and production enterprise in Russia, specializing in the manufacture of radio electronics, microcircuitry, instrumentation, as well as structural frameworks for radio-electronic equipment. It holds the status of a Federal Scientific and Production Center and is included in the list of Russia’s strategic and system-forming enterprises.
