Russian military equipment has exploded on an anti-tank mine planted by Ukrainian troops on the frontline. A video footage released in social media captures an injured Russian soldier lying near the destroyed equipment and covered in blood. Russian soldiers are giving first aid to the wounded fellow serviceman. Landmine explosions along the Ukraine frontline have caused significant casualties among the Russian troops since the start of the full-fledged invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Numerous Russian soldiers have been injured or killed by mines during assaults, patrols, and resupply operations. These explosions often occur unexpectedly, striking vehicles, armored columns, or individual soldiers moving on foot. Even heavily armored equipment is vulnerable: anti-tank mines can disable or destroy vehicles, while anti-personnel mines cause severe injuries such as amputations, burns, and shrapnel wounds. Land mines are particularly effective in slowing advances and shaping the battlefield. For Russian forces, minefields have complicated offensive operations, forced reliance on engineering units, and increased exposure to artillery and drone attacks while troops attempt to clear safe passages. Casualties are not limited to combat troops; sappers and engineers tasked with detecting and removing mines face exceptionally high risks. It should be noted that over 1.2 million Russian troops have been killed or injured in fighting in the nearly four-year war, according to Ukrainian and Western sources.
