The destruction and damage of military facilities located in the temporarily occupied Crimea is a powerful pressure on Russian forces.
Lieutenant General Igor Romanenko, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, stated this on Radio NV. "To ensure this happens, combat plans are developed, operations that first destroy individual elements, primarily the ‘eyes and ears,’ that is, the relay stations, and then the active assets—fighters and anti-aircraft missile systems," the expert explained.
According to him, during such events, strikes are carried out by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles.
"This combination of weapons and strikes produces the greatest damage effect. And there are corresponding prospects, because Ukrainian defense industry enterprises are increasing their capacity to produce and scale up the corresponding weapons, which are actively used to strike military targets," Romanenko added.
As reported, recently, SBU long-range drones successfully targeted Russian air defense components at the Belbek military airfield in Crimea.
The following were hit by Ukrainian drones: two Nebo-SVU airborne early warning systems; a 92N6 radar, which is part of the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system; a Pantsir-S2 anti-aircraft missile system; and a MiG-31 aircraft with a full complement of ammunition. Ukraine has said its long-range drones struck two Russian Su-27 fighter jets in occupied Crimea worth $70m.
One of the planes was on the runway ready for a combat sortie when it was blown up and destroyed, Ukraine’s SBU security services said. A second plane was damaged in the attack on the Belbek military airfield in Russian-occupied Crimea.
The strike followed a separate operation a day earlier in which the SBU said it had hit a Russian shadow fleet vessel crossing the Mediterranean sea, the first such attack in those waters since the war began. Ukraine said the Belbek operation marked its second successful strike on the airfield in recent days. The strike came as US and Russian officials geared up for fresh talks in Florida aimed at ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Kirill Dmitriev, Vladimir Putin’s envoy, criticised “warmongers keep working overtime to undermine the US peace plan for Ukraine”.
