As reported Security Service of Ukraine struck a Russian MiG-31 aircraft, as well as S-400 and Pantsir air defense systems, at the Belbek airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea. Ukraine’s SBU struck: 2 Nebo-SVU long-range radar detection systems, 92N6 radar, which is part of the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system, Pantsir-S2 anti-aircraft missile system, MiG-31 aircraft with a full combat load. The special services stated that the elimination of the components of the Russian Armed Forces’ echeloned system significantly weakens the enemy’s defenses and military capabilities in the Crimean direction.
According to the SBU, the value of the attacked military equipment ranges from 192 to 292 million dollars.
In just one day, the Russian air defense in Crimea lost four radar stations – three near the Belbek airfield and one near the village of Gvardeyskoye.
A Crimean military expert, a former Ukrainian officer and a lieutenant colonel in the Ukrainian Armed Forces reserve, drew attention to a discrepancy in the SBU report. He shared his opinion anonymously with Krym.Realii .
"The SBU’s report claims two Nebo-SVU radar systems were destroyed, but the published video shows two radars of a different type. These are Nebo-U. Although both systems are part of the same Nebo family, they have completely different antenna systems and performance characteristics," the expert stated.
"Nebo-U" is one of the newest Russian radars. It is a three-dimensional, medium- and high-altitude standby radar operating in the meter wave band. It is designed to detect and provide coordinates (range, azimuth, and altitude) when operating independently or as part of automated air defense systems (ASCS). It provides trace data processing and high measurement accuracy in the face of intense radio countermeasures. The Nebo-SVU radar has different characteristics. It also operates in the meter range and can detect and track a wide range of modern and future airborne targets—strategic and tactical aircraft, including ASALM-type air-to-air missiles, small targets (, low-observable targets, including those using stealth technology. It also features target class recognition, target identification, and the direction finding of active jammers . According to the SBU, the radar in question is the 92N6 multifunctional radar.
