NATO at risk: Europe confronts Trump’s economic blackmail | News in Depth

This week’s News in Depth focused on how fast and aggressively Donald Trump is reshaping global politics – and how Europe is finally starting to push back.

“The real trouble is that he’s really going ahead with changing the world order and undermining the unity of the West” – Adam Jasser.

Jasser explained that Trump’s threats over Greenland, new tariffs on U.S. allies, and the idea of a so-called Board of Peace are not separate stories, but part of one broader strategy. According to Jasser, Trump is moving on all fronts at once to rewrite the world order, weaken existing institutions such as the UN, and place the United States firmly at the top of a new global power hierarchy.

Europe, meanwhile, is beginning to wake up. What stood out this week is that even Trump-friendly European politicians – the U.K., Germany, and France – are now openly criticizing him. This shift highlights how deeply uncomfortable his actions have made even his ideological allies.

European leaders are increasingly talking less about accommodation and more about countermeasures, including tariffs, restrictions on market access, and tighter regulation of U.S. companies.
