Poland Destroys Russian Drones Over Its Territory for the First Time

On the night of September 10, Russian drones entered Poland’s airspace. Meanwhile, a massive drone attack on Ukraine was underway.

Following this, the operational command of the Polish armed forces reported a military operation aimed at detecting and neutralizing the enemy drones.

By morning, they declared that an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by Russian UAVs had occurred during the night.

“This is an act of aggression that poses a real threat to the safety of our citizens,” the statement added.

Polish and allied forces detected and tracked several aerial objects using radars. After that, fighter jets shot down some of the drones.

Searches are currently underway to determine the possible locations where these aircraft may have fallen.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the violation of the country’s airspace by Russian drones and their subsequent destruction.

According to Minister of Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland’s Territorial Defence Forces have been involved in the ground search for the downed drones. He urged citizens not to approach fragments of Russian UAVs if found and to report them to the police.

Poland also partially closed its airspace after the drone intrusion was detected.

Airports in Rzeszów, where a hub for international military aid to Ukraine is located, as well as in Lublin and Warsaw, were closed “due to unplanned military activities for ensuring national security.” Fighter jets were deployed into the air.

During the night, Ukrainian monitoring channels reported that a number of Russian drones were heading from Ukrainian territory towards Poland.

The FlightRadar24 service also recorded military aviation over Poland, including F-35 fighter jets and a refueling aircraft that was providing them with fuel.
