Poland to gain from new EU carbon cost plan, Tusk says | Midday Report

Poland is set to benefit from new EU measures to ease carbon costs, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after a summit in Brussels. The plan would redirect funds from emissions permits to support less wealthy member states facing higher energy prices.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has angered EU leaders by blocking a 90-billion-euro military loan for Ukraine – though he is finding support beyond the bloc. Moscow has welcomed his move, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance is reportedly set to visit Budapest for the CPAC conference.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s negotiating team is already on its way to Washington, with reaching a “just peace” being their top priority. Russia meanwhile continues its attacks on Ukraine.
