Russia is increasing its hostility towards Azerbaijan and is starting to hit the country’s business interests in Ukraine. On the night of August 8, the aggressor country attacked the oil depot of the Azerbaijani oil company SOCAR in the Odessa region with "Shaheds". The attack resulted in a fire and damage to a diesel fuel pipeline, writes European Pravda.
The fire was quickly contained. According to sources, four employees were seriously injured and received emergency medical care. The damage is currently being assessed and emergency restoration work is underway. The publication’s sources specify that the oil depot was attacked by five drones. The location of the crash of the controlled drones indicates that the SOCAR facility was the target of the Russian drones. Thus, this is already the second targeted attack on critical infrastructure facilities in Ukraine connected to Azerbaijan. Before that, a strike was carried out on the Orlovka gas distribution station near the border with Romania. This station is part of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline, through which it is planned to supply Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine.
Azerbaijani media described the Russian attack on the SOCAR oil depot as energy terrorism and began calling Russia a terrorist country. Minval writes that the Kremlin is opening a second front in Ukraine – against Azerbaijan "This is an open transition to forceful actions, the legality of which, let’s be realistic, is out of the question ," the media outlet notes.
Earlier, Russian propagandists called the strike on the Orlovka station in Odessa region a "signal to Baku" . It was carried out after an agreement between Kiev and Baku on the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine and against the backdrop of a sharp deterioration in relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. Z-bloggers and pro-Kremlin propaganda media called the attack by the "Shaheds" on the Orlovka gas compressor station in the Odessa region, which is part of the route for the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Ukraine, a "signal" to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. For example, one of the major propaganda media outlets of the aggressor country writes that the Azerbaijani leader “chose the wrong route” for gas supplies.
Other propagandists wrote: the attack on the station was a warning to Aliyev that “Azerbaijani gas may not reach Ukraine.” Z-propagandists openly state that the strike affected the interests of Baku and call for attacks on "all Azerbaijani infrastructure" in the Odessa region, in particular on Azerbaijani oil products. The host of the propaganda Channel One, Ruslan Ostashko, called the attack on the station a blow to "Azerbaijan’s game in the interests of the West" and claims that the aggressor country intends to stop Baku’s attempts to organize supplies bypassing Russia.
