As a result of the Russian Federation’s attack on the capital of Ukraine, 28 people are already known to have died, but there may still be people under the rubble.
This was stated by the representative of the State Emergency Service, Oleksandr Khorunzhiy, on air at the telethon. "As a result of the terrorist act, 28 people have died so far. Information has just been transmitted that another person in the Svyatoshinsky district was pulled out from under the rubble of a 9-story building by our rescuers," he noted.
Among those killed in attack were three children – two- and six-year-olds, and a 17-year-old boy. As of this morning, a total of 159 people have been injured, including 16 children.
At the same time, Khorunzhiy said that there is a possibility that more people will be found, because the rubble is still being cleared, engineering equipment, rescuers, psychologists are working, and volunteers are distributing food to people. "As of yesterday, there was talk of searching for 22 people. But we are not focusing on this data, but will be checking absolutely all areas in this house. Therefore, we cannot clearly state how many people could have been there, because there are different circumstances – a person could have gone on vacation, not been at home at that time, or, on the contrary, someone could have come to visit. There could be different options here," said Khorunzhiy.
Over 2,000 tons of debris have been cleared from the site within the past day. A total of 180 rescue workers and 60 units of equipment have been involved in the recovery efforts.
"Emergency rescue operations continue in the Sviatoshynskyi district. So far, rescuers have cleared 70% of the destroyed building structures," the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.
US President Donald Trump while commenting on Russia’s attack on Kyiv said that this is disgusting. "I think what Russia is doing is very sad. Many Russians are dying, more Russians are dying. Ukrainians are dying," he said during a conversation with reporters.
President Trump sharpened his threat to impose sanctions on Russia over its war in Ukraine, even while acknowledging that the weapon he once argued worked on everyone — the threat of financial ruin — may have no effect on its president, Vladimir V. Putin.
“We’re going to put sanctions,” he said, even though a deadline he gave Moscow this week to seriously engage on a cease-fire had not yet passed. “Russia? I think it’s disgusting what they’re doing,” he said, apparently referring to its continued bombing of Ukraine. Trump’s comments came after Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged in an interview with Fox News Radio that the administration held secret talks with Russia this week — “not with Putin but with some of Putin’s top people” — and made no progress on a cease-fire. Trump said he was dispatching his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Russia again, but the last visit that Mr. Witkoff, a fellow real estate investor, paid toPutin proved fruitless.
