Kremlin employees working in close proximity to Putin have been banned from using mobile phones and any internet-enabled devices, according to the British newspaper The Telegraph . Visitors to the Kremlin now undergo two stages of security screening, and surveillance systems have been installed in the homes of chefs, bodyguards, and photographers. Employees in Putin’s inner circle are required to travel exclusively on transport organized by the Federal Protective Service. The FSO has complete control over all logistics: routes, timing, and drivers. Personal cars and taxis are effectively prohibited for those close to the president. This means total control over the movements of everyone who might be close to the head of the Kremlin.
Surveillance systems are now installed in the homes of cooks, bodyguards, and photographers. The Federal Protective Service fears recruitment or assassination plots through Putin’s inner circle. The Kremlin is now suspecting not only officials and military personnel, but also service personnel – those who prepare food, provide security, and film protocol footage. The security measures fit into the overall picture. The Financial Times reported that Putin is spending more time in underground bunkers . European intelligence is recording the risk of a coup involving Sergei Shoigu. The Washington Post reports a conflict between Kiriyenko and the FSB’s 2nd Service over the regime’s survival strategy. But Russian Z-blogger Ilya Remeslo , who worked for the Kremlin and the Russian presidential administration just a few months ago, told The Washington Post that Putin will sooner or later be overthrown by his own entourage. He points to a split unfolding at the top of the Russian government—the same thing is being recorded by European intelligence, analysts, and current officials themselves. "Putin will sooner or later be overthrown by his own entourage, when he ceases to be entirely useful to them. This is the outcome that awaits him. The scale of discontent is colossal. I have a feeling that part of the system is already starting to work against Putin. It’s similar to what happened at the end of the Soviet Union, when people hated the Communist Party and did everything they could to end it. Putin’s Russia will follow the same path," he said. Tatyana Stanovaya, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Russia and Eurasia Center, describes the situation even more starkly. In her view, the Russian system is struggling to cope with mounting pressure: internal tensions, behind-the-scenes elite maneuvering, rumors of a coup, fear of losing control, and growing vulnerability to Ukrainian attacks and assassination attempts. "The pressure has reached such a level that too many players within Russia are facing a new reality: the status quo is beginning to threaten their own positions. If nothing changes, survival will become difficult, if not impossible," Stanovaya writes. Until recently, many believed that Putin had a plan, even if it was simply to continue the war. "There are growing doubts now as to whether such a plan even exists. And even if it does, for some it could mean political or physical destruction," she said.
