In Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, fires were reported at an oil refinery at the Black Sea port of Tuapse again, local officials said Tuesday. The refinery has been hit repeatedly by Ukrainian drones in recent weeks, most recently catching fire in a blaze that took four days to extinguish. Residents living near the refinery were being evacuated on Tuesday, Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said. He did not provide details on how many people were being evacuated or for how long. Asked whether any measures are being planned to prevent similar incidents in the future, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “intensive work is underway in this regard.” “Measures to mitigate the aftermath in Tuapse are being implemented at the appropriate level,” he added, declining to provide further details. Russian media reported severe air and sea pollution in the area as a result of the fire in Tuapse. Stray dogs were among those affected, with footage showing volunteers washing animals covered in oil. One volunteer said the oil had coated the fur and tails of the animals so heavily that it was “practically glued” on.
