The situation with access to water has sharply worsened in the occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast. According to the so-called "DPR authorities", the region’s reservoirs have run dry, and the volumes of water are not enough even for the basic needs of the population. Now residents of large cities receive water once every few days.
Chairman of the occupation "government" Andrei Chertkov made an address.
" Today, a critical situation is developing with the water supply of our region. And you can see this from the state of our reservoirs ," the occupier reported. According to him, the water level in the Verkhnekamenskoye, Makeyevskoye and Olkhovskoye reservoirs has dropped to critical levels. “ The volumes that we have are not enough for industry, agriculture and, first of all, for the residents of the ‘republic’ ,” Chertkov admitted. In connection with this, he reported, the occupation "administrations" decided to change the water supply schedule. In Donetsk and Makeyevka, water will now be supplied only once every three days. In Khartsyzsk, Ilovaisk and Zugres – once every two days. In some areas where water does not reach at all, they promise to deliver it by tanker trucks. " This is a forced measure that will allow us to use the resource more rationally… We will try to get through this heat and make a reserve for heating for the winter ," explained a representative of the occupation "administration," adding that "there is no way out." The Russian-controlled territory of Donbas has been suffering from severe water shortages for years. However, after the start of the full-scale invasion, the situation entered a crisis phase. The Russian army destroyed the infrastructure that supplied the region with water and did not take any steps to restore the system. It is important to note that before the Russian occupation, Donbass had no problems with water supply. Despite a significantly higher population in the pre-war years, water was supplied steadily, without interruptions. After Russia’s arrival, the region plunged into a humanitarian catastrophe, which Moscow not only fails to resolve, but actually worsens. While the Kremlin reports on the "protection of Russian speakers," millions of people in the occupied lands are forced to survive in conditions where water has become scarce and every drop is worth its weight in gold.
