On January 5, Russian forces launched five ballistic missile strikes on Kharkiv, targeting energy infrastructure facilities.
This was reported by Mayor Ihor Terekhov, noting that the city suffered very significant damage.
The first hits were recorded at around 12:45, after which the strikes were repeated at intervals, mostly in the same area.
According to monitoring resources, at least five ballistic missiles were launched at Kharkiv and the surrounding area from the territory of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation.
Some of the hits occurred in the industrial zone of Sloboda district, where critical energy infrastructure facilities are concentrated.
The nature of the attacks and the short flight time indicate the use of ballistic weapons, not cruise missiles or UAVs.
Based on the combination of signs, the attack could have used Iskander-M missiles, North Korean KN-23s, as well as modified S-300/S-400 anti-aircraft missiles, which Russia regularly uses to strike ground targets.
The repetition of hits within the same area indicates a gradual adjustment of fire and confirmation of selected targets.
The city authorities emphasize that the strikes were targeted and aimed at disrupting the power supply.
Emergency and energy services are working to eliminate the consequences; information on the victims is being clarified.
The ballistic strike on Kharkiv is part of Russia’s overall tactics to systematically damage the energy infrastructure of frontline cities, especially in winter.
Russia recently attacked Kharkiv with two FPV drones, which were “delivered” to the city by a Molniya drone.
