Russian opposition media, having analyzed reports about the Russian army , came to the conclusion that it has become more difficult for the authorities to recruit contract soldiers. They probably do not have time to recruit new manpower, given the losses. This is stated in a post by the channel "We Can Explain" .
Journalists have noted that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and his close associate Dmitry Medvedev have differed in their figures. Medvedev said that 210,000 contract soldiers had joined the army in the first half of 2025, which is up to 35,000 people per month. Before that, Putin said that up to 60,000 people were joining the army every month. If Putin’s words were true, then the Russian army would have increased by 360,000 people in the first half of the year.
It is noted that this is only one piece of evidence of problems with recruiting and a shortage of soldiers at the front. The reduction in the rate of recruitment of contract soldiers is evidenced by the reduction in federal budget expenditures, which was noted by journalists . Putin’s expectations for the summer offensive campaign are not being met, says military observer Denis Popovich. In his opinion, the Russians continue to fight, sending manpower forward – this is either the so-called "meat assault" tactic, or attempts to break through with small infantry groups. Such tactics cannot produce results, since the occupiers are met with a large number of drones.
At the same time, it is calculated that the average lifespan of a Russian assault soldier is 2-3 days . When sending soldiers to storm, they are not even given food and water supplies. According to the chief of staff of the 4th battalion "Force of Freedom" of the "Rubezh" brigade Nikolai Gritsenko, the soldiers have only what they take with them – a bottle of water, a can of food, cookies, 2 grenades and an ammo rack. There are no logistics for delivering supplies.
