The occupiers themselves have probably revealed the location of their key military bases near Mariupol. We are talking about the facilities in the Mangushka district, which were identified after analyzing new documents and satellite images.
A map of priority bases, for the sake of which, according to analysts, active road construction is being carried out. This was reported by the head of the "Center for the Study of the Occupation" of Mariupol Petr Andryushchenko.
According to Andryushchenko, Russian forces have actually revealed all the key military bases in the Mangushka community of Mariupol district by themselves, having made public the plan of reconstruction and construction of secondary roads. The document was prepared by the so-called Russian Institute of Spatial Planning.
Analysts overlaid this plan on an actual satellite map and compared it with OSINT and HUMINT data. As a result, it was possible to identify a network of priority military bases, under which, according to the researchers’ conclusions, the new roads are laid.
It is separately noted that the scheme of the new road helped to identify one of the largest and most closed bases of the occupants near the village of Starodubovka – on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya regions. It was this object that remained little-known and classified for a long time. "Thank you, what is there. Let’s have some more?" – Andryushchenko added. Ukrainian drones are now expected to visit the area.
From the very beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Russian army had one priority: to seize Mariupol. With a population of 500,000, the second-largest city in southeastern Ukraine was of strategic importance, sitting on the shores of the Sea of Azov and along the route to Crimea.
Nearly four years later, Mariupol has become the main stage for the Kremlin’s efforts to present the occupation of part of Ukraine in the best possible light. What has taken shape is a scripted version of reality. Reconstruction is indeed happening, but it resembles a Potemkin village. Russian authorities have been meticulously erasing evidence of their crimes in the city, building at a rapid pace while waging a battle on memory to guarantee impunity for the aggressor.
During the siege, nearly half of Mariupol’s population fled. The death toll exceeded 22,000 civilians, according to the Ukrainian city council, now in exile. Russia took over a city in ruins: Its assault destroyed or damaged 90% of residential buildings and 60% of private homes, according to the United Nations.
Mariupol has thus suffered the same fate as Grozny, the Chechen capital reduced to rubble by Russian bombing in 1999 and later rebuilt with Moscow’s funds. Today, in the streets of both cities, cars bear Russian license plates; transactions in shops are conducted in rubles; Russian flags flutter in parks; murals and monuments celebrate Russia and its heroes.
