Major Russian military bloggers and pro-Kremlin voices are now openly warning that public anger is rising and that if the situation continues to deteriorate, people may begin to push back against the authorities. Economic conditions are worsening, internet restrictions are expanding, and many Russians are furious that migrants reportedly retain full internet access while Russian citizens face growing censorship and limitations.
At the same time, Russia’s economy continues to show serious signs of collapse. Russia’s largest oil company has reported another catastrophic quarter, with profits reportedly down around 90% year over year. Russia’s largest automobile manufacturer is halting production, rail cargo volumes continue to fall, and more signs are emerging that the Russian government is struggling to sustain its war economy.
Meanwhile, the war is expanding beyond Russia’s borders. Ukraine is now reportedly operating from multiple positions in Libya and has already used maritime drones to strike Russian tankers in the Mediterranean. Over Crimea, another Russian Su-30 fighter jet has been shot down, continuing a growing trend of Russian aircraft losses.
Inside Russia, new reports claim authorities are tricking men into military service by inserting mobilization clauses into routine administrative documents. These reports are spreading quickly and causing further anger among the population.
Elsewhere, Hungary’s Viktor Orbán is facing growing backlash at home, with protests and falling poll numbers ahead of upcoming elections. And in a bizarre display, Turkmenistan’s dictator has staged another surreal military spectacle, highlighting the increasingly strange behavior of authoritarian regimes aligned with Moscow.
Russia is facing pressure economically, militarily, and now increasingly politically — and the biggest question is no longer what is happening on the front line, but what is beginning to happen inside Russia itself.
