Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, who for years assured Russians of "stability" and "upswing" under Putin’s rule, suddenly broke down on air and began talking about real problems. His words marked the first open acknowledgement of a crisis from the man who symbolizes Russian propaganda.
The truth was revealed on the "Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" program on a Russian federal television channel.
" The Commander-in-Chief set the goal that we must grow at a rate above the global average. But thanks to whom, what, and whose policies have we found ourselves almost on the brink of recession? Perhaps someone will answer? Or is this a question for the weather forecasters? Is this just the weather? There’s a war going on! We can’t afford the luxury of slipping into recession! " the alarmed propagandist declared. This tirade was a sensation even for Russian viewers, accustomed to the host’s unconditional loyalty. In fact, for the first time, Solovyov publicly questioned the effectiveness of the Kremlin’s policies and acknowledged that the economy was in dire straits. According to independent analysts, Russia has already effectively crossed the recession line. Production is falling, exports are shrinking, inflation is rising, and war costs continue to consume ever more resources. What’s happening is the result of the war of attrition that dictator Vladimir Putin has been waging for almost four years. This war is destroying industry, undermining the domestic market, and draining the budget. The fact that even Solovyov has begun to voice his concerns demonstrates that the situation in Russia is deteriorating so rapidly that even the most devoted supporters of the regime are finding it impossible to conceal it. These can also be considered criticism of Putin’s policies on official Russian channels.
Problems in the Russian economy continue to worsen, forcing even pro-Kremlin experts to discuss them. For example, the Kremlin-aligned Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting has warned of growing risks of recession in Russia. According to the center’s latest survey, industrial production is teetering on the brink of decline, investment is stagnating, and business profitability has fallen to pre-pandemic lows. The only source of growth remains population consumption, but its potential is quickly being exhausted.
According to Rosstat, industrial production fell again in September by 1%, taking into account seasonal and calendar factors. Of the nine months of 2025, a decline was recorded in five, notes the Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasting. After a brief recovery in August, industry declined again, and the "balance between growth and decline" became particularly precarious. Civilian manufacturing industries are experiencing a sharp decline, excluding military production. Output in these sectors fell by 4.4% in August (following a 2.3% decline in July), bringing the decline over the first eight months of the year to 5.4%. If we look at a three-month period, the decline has already reached 6.3% year-on-year, with the exception of wood processing and paper production.
