Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda Radio aired for the first time what the Kremlin prefers to remain silent about. Experts acknowledged that industry in the occupied territories is virtually nonexistent. The metallurgy industry is in crisis—the Ilyich plant in Mariupol has yet to reopen, coal mines are operating at a loss, mechanical engineering has been halted, and the food industry is on the brink. Donbass used to generate billions of dollars in profits, but now almost everything has perished, the entire economy is at a standstill and falling apart.
The hosts and guests on the show said bluntly: there’s nowhere to put the coal—Kuzbass is overflowing, no one needs the metal, and there’s nowhere to supply water and electricity because the consumers are in Ukraine.
Russia promised to make Donbas a "showcase for a new world." In reality, it’s a ruin, with no investors, no market, and not even logistics. Experts say the investors they tried to hand over the mines to quickly handed them back to the state—there’s no profitability, and there can’t be. Exports have collapsed, and domestic demand is nonexistent. Even bakeries survive on water reserves, while agriculture in the Kherson region was completely destroyed after the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station was blown up. Drought and devastation are the true consequences of the "Russian world."
Even the participants in the broadcast couldn’t explain why Russia needs these territories. The captured factories and mines aren’t trophies, but a burden. They can’t be integrated, can’t be relaunched, can’t be sold. And this is acknowledged not only by the opposition, but by Russian propaganda itself. Russia spent billions, destroyed regions, killed tens of thousands of people—and ended up with a desert where there’s no one to work and nothing to do.
Now Z-patriots asks: why did Putin invade Ukraine? Earlier, Z-propagandists stopped denying that life in Donetsk was much better under Ukraine. Maxim Kalashnikov, a well-known propagandist, claimed that the crisis was caused by the "disgusting, incompetent actions of the current government," which was appointed by Kremlin curators. He claimed that the water supply system in Donetsk was effectively destroyed by the actions of Moscow and its proxies.
This means residents can’t live a normal life: they can’t take a shower, bathe their dogs after a walk, or even wash dishes. Water is infrequent, dirty, and insufficient, yet authorities continue to promise "new water mains" that don’t solve the problem. Kalashnikov also recalled that the so-called head of the "DPR," Denis Pushilin, was appointed from Moscow and that no independent "people’s republic" ever existed.
