A Russian military intelligence agent was exposed within Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service. He was mapping flight paths for enemy missiles and drones to launch strikes on Kyiv and the Chernihiv region.
The Security Service of Ukraine reported this.
He also tried to identify the positions of Ukrainian Defense Forces UAV units.
According to investigators, during official trips to the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, he documented the locations of radar stations, air-defense missile systems, and mobile AA firing teams.
Using an electronic map, he drew routes linking Ukrainian air defense positions and calculated their elevation and terrain features.

Additionally, the agent attempted to track the locations of unmanned aerial vehicle units and energy infrastructure facilities.
He stored the collected information on his personal smartphone in the form of a prepared “report” for further transfer to his handler from Russian military intelligence – the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (formerly known as the GRU).
SSU officers arrested the agent while he was carrying out further reconnaissance near a potential target. They seized his phone, which contained evidence of his work for the aggressor state’s intelligence service.
The border guard is currently being held in custody without the option of bail. He faces a possible life sentence with confiscation of his assets.
Based on the evidence gathered, he has been formally charged with high treason.

Previously, SSU counterintelligence detained an engineer at a strategic defense plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region who was simultaneously spying for two Russian intelligence services.
The Russians had hoped to obtain from him data on the locations of high-tech facilities and the plant’s industrial production area, which they were preparing to target with ballistic missile strikes.
