Troops of the army of the aggressor country Russia are increasing pressure on the northern part of Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region.
Firefights with the enemy continue in the city center, according to the 7th Rapid Reaction Corps of the Airborne Assault Forces .
It is noted that in order to further assault "upper" Myrnohrad, the occupiers continue to accumulate heavy equipment in the Novogrodovka area.
"In cooperation with the 1st Corps of the Azov National Guard, we are blocking the enemy along the line of the eastern outskirts of Myrnohrad – Krasny Liman – Rodynske," the statement said.
The enemy subsequently attempted to advance toward Grishino via several routes. Recently, a group of Russian troops managed to penetrate the village, but the coordinated actions of the Ukrainian defenders eliminated the enemy. In the 7th Airborne Assault Corps’ area of responsibility, Russian troops have seen a significant increase in their use of various types of drones. Specifically, the enemy is increasingly using Molniya-type drones as mother drones, which carry two FPV drones and deliver a triple strike on targets. There have also been cases of the use of fiber-optic drones, which are capable of penetrating more than 20 km into Ukrainian defenses.
Recall, the large agglomeration of industrial cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region is one of the main targets of the Russian offensive. Russia has concentrated its largest and most powerful force here. Late last year, the Kremlin declared the complete occupation of these cities. In reality, this is not the case. As early as the late summer of 2024, Russian troops approached the outskirts of these settlements. But Ukraine deployed reserves, strengthened its defenses, and was able to prevent the rapid collapse of the agglomeration.
Active fighting on this section of the front has been ongoing for a year and a half. The situation escalated to its peak in early autumn 2025, when Russian troops were able to overcome Ukrainian Armed Forces defenses in the southern Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration and enter residential areas. On December 1, the Kremlin announced the capture of Pokrovsk, and just before the New Year, it declared full control of Myrnohrad.
The Ukrainian authorities deny this. The military-political leadership insists that the Ukrainian Armed Forces still control certain areas of these cities, and there is no talk of encircling or capturing the agglomeration.
In an interview with the BBC Ukrainian Service, Ukrainian General Yevhen Lasiychuk
notes that the Defence Forces must hold out until spring, when the Russian army is expected to become exhausted and slow its advance. “Today, the Ukrainian Defense Forces fully control the northern part of Pokrovsk and the northern part of Myrnohrad. The enemy is, however, becoming more active in Pokrovsk, attempting to press northwestward to reach the village of Grishino. This is likely their primary target in the Pokrovsk district.
Some units attracted by the enemy in this city are also trying to penetrate between our battle formations in the north, trying to get beyond Pokrovsk here.
As for Myrnohrad, the enemy’s advance is in the southern part of the town. They are attempting to amass personnel and equipment there”, he added.
“As for the Russian group, the 51st and 2nd Armies of the Russian Federation carried out the tasks there. But at a certain point, they lost their effectiveness due to losses.
After that, the operational-strategic reserve from the 76th Airborne Division was brought in. We knew where it was coming from, what methods it would use, and how it would be assembled.
This airborne assault group is currently engaged in active operations, attempting to advance. But we know that it, too, is already suffering such losses that we are having to rotate units, withdrawing them for regrouping and restoring combat capability.
That is, this shows that our defense and firepower are effective” he said.
