The Security Service of Ukraine successfully destroyed two Russian Su-27 fighter jets at the Belbek military airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea. One of the aircraft was on the taxiway, fully loaded, and ready for a combat mission .
At the same time, the SBU confirmed the airfield’s control tower had been hit , complicating the flight operations of Russian forces. This was reported by the SBU press service.
"Long-range drones from the SBU’s Alpha Special Operations Center shot down two Su-27 aircraft at the Russian military airfield in Belbek, temporarily occupied Crimea," the statement reads.
The estimated cost of both aircraft is approximately US$70 million.
In addition, the airfield’s control tower has been confirmed to have been damaged, significantly complicating the control and organization of Russian military flights. This is already the second successful operation of the SBU at the Belbek airfield in recent days.
On December 18, drones destroyed hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Russian equipment at the airport: two Nebo-SVU radars, a 92N6 radar from the S-400 Triumph air defense system, a Pantsir-S2 air defense system, and a MiG-31 aircraft with a full complement of ammunition.
"The SBU’s strikes on key military airfields, as well as the destruction of enemy aircraft and air defense systems in temporarily occupied Crimea, are significantly reducing their military potential in the region. This systematic work will continue," the SBU noted. "The SBU continues effective work to destroy air defense systems in Crimea, which cover important military and logistical facilities of the occupiers. The elimination of the components of this echeloned system significantly weakens the enemy’s defense and military capabilities in the Crimean direction," the Ukrainian defenders emphasized. On December 15, it became known that the SBU successfully hit the Russian class 636.3 submarine "Varshavyanka" in the port of Novorossiysk. The operation was made possible thanks to the use of Sub Sea Baby underwater drones, which were used for the first time in history to attack a submarine . As a result of the explosion, the submarine suffered critical damage and was effectively disabled.
According to the SBU, the submarine was carrying four Kalibr cruise missile launchers , which Russia uses to strike the territory of Ukraine, and its cost is estimated at approximately $400 million.
