Ukraine at stake as Orbán accepts Trump’s peace vision | News in Depth

Michał Broniatowski says Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace” is a vague, personal project with no clear rules, legal basis, or real purpose. He argues that inviting leaders like Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko back to the table rewards aggression and undermines the international effort to isolate war criminals. From Poland’s perspective, he stresses, joining such a body would be legally and politically risky – and could even look as a betrayal of Ukraine.

Broniatowski is especially critical of what he sees as appeasement, calling Hungary’s Viktor Orbán a willing participant in Putin’s narrative rather than a genuine peacemaker. In his view, the idea is unlikely to last, and Europe’s real priority should remain supporting Ukraine, not chasing symbolic peace initiatives.
