OSINT researcher Clément Molin analyzed satellite imagery, photos, and videos of the construction of the new Ukrainian fortification line. The overall conclusion is positive: in the open sections of the front where the Russians planned a rapid advance, this line is capable of either stopping the enemy or significantly slowing them down.
This year, Ukraine built important fortifications that could halt or slow the advance of Russian troops. These fortifications, as visible from space, have already proven their effectiveness.
The line has a small number of crossings, for example, on one of them there are only two passages for 16 kilometers. The line is designed to stop both infantry and armored vehicles: 21 rows of barbed wire, three rows of anti-tank ditches and three rows of concrete obstacles (“dragon’s teeth”). Overcoming a line of such depth in itself presents serious difficulties for any forces thrown into the assault. The only section of the front where fortifications are not yet completed is the Zaporizhzhia region; the Ukrainians are now trying to speed up their completion, while the Russians are increasing the pressure, trying to break through before the line is ready. Potentially vulnerable points are the roads that pass through the line, but they are necessary for the continuation of supplies to Ukrainian troops behind the line and their retreat behind it when such a need arises. At the same time, the Ukrainians are clearly ready to concentrate fire damage on road sections, since the Russians are trying to attack there.
Concealed fortified positions are available behind the fortification line, providing cover for infantry and UAV operators.
