Ukraine has destroyed a launcher from the Bastion coastal defense system along with several Zircon missile projectiles, the country’s military intelligence agency, the Main Intelligence Directorate, reported on March 24. In a statement shared on Telegram, the agency said units from its unmanned systems division had tracked a convoy of Bastion-M launchers near the village of Furmanovka in occupied Crimea Peninsula as it moved toward launch positions. According to the report, precision strikes carried out by reconnaissance units destroyed one launcher and two Zircon missiles, while another launcher was damaged. Ukrainian officials said seven Russian personnel were either killed or injured in the attack. HUR further claimed that Russian forces have been deploying Zircon missiles against civilian targets, particularly in southern, western, and eastern parts of Ukraine, and said the latest strike disrupted plans for further attacks on cities. The Zircon missile is a sea-launched hypersonic weapon designed to engage naval targets such as ships and carrier groups, though it can also be used against land-based objectives. Developed in the early 2010s and entering service in 2023, it is believed to reach speeds of up to Mach 8–9 and strike targets hundreds of kilometers away. Separately, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Ukrainian forces also hit a Bastion launcher near Aktachi, though it provided limited details about that operation. Additional strikes targeted Russian troops and command positions in occupied areas of eastern Ukraine, including near Velyka Novosilka, Khoroshe, and Novozlatopil. Ukrainian forces also reported hitting a Russian repair unit in Novozlatopil and a drone command post near Velyka Novosilka. The extent of the damage and the scale of Russian losses remain under evaluation.
