Ukraine’s sustained drone attacks across Russia on Friday wreaked havoc on Russian airports, causing cancellation and delays of a large number of flights in capital Moscow and other regions. Around 80 flights were delayed in Black Sea resort city of Sochi following the massive drone attacks. Restrictions were also in effect at Moscow’s Domodedovo airprort and at the airports in Vladikavkaz, Kazan, Saratov, Kaluga, Nizhnekamsk, Izhevsk, Samara, and Ulyanovsk. Due to Ukrainian drone strikes on Krasnodar region and other southern regions of Russia, flights from Krasnodar region’s resort town of Gelendzhik to capital Moscow were delayed by an entire day. It should be noted that Gelendzhik airport had only recently resumed its operations. Passengers of Russia’s largest airline Aeroflot told local media that check-in procedures were stopped, and the airline was supposed to provide buses to Mineralnye Vody town in Stavropol region, where the flights had been redirected, but the buses were delayed. These delays created crowds of passengers who had to wait for hours for the situation to be resolved. Some passengers were sent to temporary accommodation centers in Novorossiysk city in Krasnodar. Aeroflot’s press service stated that due to temporary restrictions in effect on August 8 and 9 at the airports in Sochi and Gelendzhik, adjustments to the flight schedule were being made. Passengers will be offered refunds or ticket rebooking options. As of Saturday morning, one of the flights from Gelendzhik airport to Moscow has been rescheduled to tomorrow, most arrivals and departures have been marked as canceled.
