Over the past two weeks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have liberated three settlements in Sumy Oblast from the enemy army. We are talking about Alekseyevka, Andreyevka and Kondratovka. This was reported by Ukrainian military correspondent Konstantin Mashovets. At the same time, geolocated footage from July 20 and 21 showed the enemy army advancing northeast of Kondratovka and southwest of Yablonovka. Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War and Mashovets voiced the situation in Sumy region over the past day. Z-war correspondents claim that Kondratovka is not under the full control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and that Putin’s army has been assigned individual houses in the village. According to Mashovets, over the past two weeks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced towards Novonikolaevka, and the enemy has advanced 150-200 meters in the area of Yablonovka and Alekseevka towards Sadki. Putin’s army also advanced 0.8-1 km from the state border along the Volfa River in the Bezsalovka area. At the same time, Russian war correspondents report the advancement of the Russian Armed Forces in the Vorochino area. According to Mashovets, on July 20 and 21, Putin’s army fought in the area of Vorochino, Sadkov and Yunakovka. At that time, Ukrainian forces carried out counterattacks on the line Konstantinovka – Vladimirovka – Novonikolaevka – Alekseevka. Z-channels claim that the settlement of Ryzhovka is not under complete occupation.
Recall, in March 2025, as Ukrainian forces made their final retreat from Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Oblast, new grey spots began to appear on open-source maps on the other side of the state border, in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast.

For the first time since 2022, when Moscow’s forces retreated frantically from northern Ukraine, Russian troops have once again set their sights on Sumy Oblast.

But for months, as Kyiv continued to claim hold of a thin sliver of Kursk Oblast and Russia’s spring offensive escalated in eastern Ukraine, the fighting around the border in Sumy Oblast was often overlooked.

Over June, Russian gains in Sumy Oblast have sped up significantly, taking several villages and coming within 20 kilometers of the regional capital of Sumy, according to territorial changes reported by open-source mapping project DeepState.
