Ukraine’s army will receive its biggest ever drone package from the United Kingdom as the four-year-war continues with no end in sight. The UK Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that the country will deliver at least 120,000 drones to Ukraine this year as announced by Defense Secretary John Healey. The package, the largest of its kind ever supplied by the UK, and announced on the Defence Ministry’s website, includes long-range strike drones; reconnaissance drones; logistics drones; maritime systems. All of them have already been tested on the front line in Ukraine. Deliveries of these new drones to Ukraine have already started this month. “In the fifth year of Russia–Ukraine War, the UK is increasing its support by supplying a record number of drones to Ukraine this year,” said UK Defence Secretary John Healey. He added that Vladimir Putin is hoping Ukraine’s allies will be diverted by developments in the Middle East. “With eyes on the Middle East in recent weeks, Putin wants us to be distracted, but Ukrainians continue to fight with huge courage and nothing will distract us from continuing to stand with them for as long as it takes to secure peace,” he emphasized. The newly announced drone initiative is part of the United Kingdom’s broader £3 billion military assistance package for Ukraine this year, complemented by additional support through ERA funding. The Defence Secretary is also expected to confirm plans to deliver vast quantities of munitions, including hundreds of thousands of artillery shells and several thousand air defence missiles, over the course of the year. In March 2026, Russia sharply escalated its drone offensive, sending approximately 6,500 one-way attack drones toward Ukraine – a clear surge compared with February’s figures. Meanwhile, drones have become indispensable in the conflict, underpinning Ukrainian offensive actions while also serving as a vital shield against continuous Russian bombardment. Most of the allocated funding will flow to British companies such as Tekever, Windracers, and Malloy Aeronautics. This investment is expected to generate jobs and reinforce the UK’s domestic defence sector. Beyond the delivery of drones, the United Kingdom has pledged further military assistance, including vast quantities of artillery ammunition, amounting to hundreds of thousands of shells; several thousand air defence missiles to help counter aerial threats. Overall, the UK’s military aid to Ukraine in 2026 is expected to reach £3 billion. Meanwhile, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Ukraine is facing an acute shortage of Patriot air defense system units, underscoring an urgent need to strengthen the country’s air defence capabilities.
